Embarrassed Bengals leave the field in Week 5 against Tampa
When GM jricciotti1230 took over the Tampa Bay job, he had a vision of what he wanted his team to look like, and it was just that yesterday afternoon in Cincinatti. A fast, physical defense attacked QB Carson Palmer all day long. There were sacks and hurries causing Carson to go a robust 5-14 with 4 interceptions. Besides a 77 yard touchdown run for Cedric Benson, the Bengals mounted absolutely nothing offensively. New arrival Steven Jackson ran exactly how the Bucs envisioned as he trotted for 78 yards and two touchdowns in only three quarters of work.
It was a strange occrance. After the third quarter, the Bucs were up 31-7 and were not letting up defensively. Marvin Lewis was enraged and embarassed. Seconds in to the fourth quarter there was an interesting development. The entire Cincinatti Bengals sideline held up their white towels and quickly jogged off the field leaving everyone confused. Coach Raheem Morris had this to say after the game, "If you aren't man enough to finish a game, then you don't belong in this particular league." Josh Freeman hopes they get another opportunity to play Cincinatti, but that won't be for four more years unless they meet in the Super Bowl. Chances are, the Bengals will be under a completely new regime next time around. GM jricciotti1230 said, "We've taken our beatings when they happen, but we would never just flat out quit during a game. That's pathetic."
